A Growing Demand for Licenses: Top Trends & Highlights from the 2023 Inspired Home Show

The Inspired Home Show is one of the most highly anticipated events in the home and housewares industry. This year's show, held in Chicago from March 4th-7th, showcased the latest trends and innovations in home design, utensils, decor, and even technology. As some of the biggest players in the licensing industry, these categories are shaping the future of licensing and paving the way for a more functional way of living.

LMCA was excited to attend the show to gain insights into the latest trends and innovations in these industries. The show featured over 2,200 exhibitors from around the world, showcasing projects ranging from kitchen gadgets to smart home technology to eco-friendly products.

Some of the most prominent trends that took center stage at this year's show include:

Bold Colors and Patterns

From vibrant yellows and greens to striking geometric prints, many exhibitors showcased products that were designed to make a statement and bring personality to any space. This trend was particularly evident in cookware and kitchen accessories, with many brightly colored pots and pans, cutlery, and gadgets. These products not only add a pop of color to the kitchen but also offer an exciting opportunity for people to express themselves and add a touch of fun to their homes.

Sustainability

Sustainability has become an increasingly important issue in recent years, and it was a dominant theme at this year's show. Many exhibitors showcased eco-friendly products made from sustainable materials, such as bamboo and recycled plastic, as well as many reusable food storage solutions that are antimicrobial and can be used again and again. In addition to being environmentally friendly, reusable food storage products are also practical and cost-effective. By investing in these, consumers can reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and save money in the long run by not having to constantly replace disposable containers. Furthermore, consumers, specifically millennials and Gen Z, are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of their purchases, and companies are responding by offering products that are both stylish and sustainable.

Retro Designs

Retro designs were a standout trend in the small appliance category, particularly for toasters, blenders, and coffee makers. Many exhibitors showcased products that harkened back to the styles and designs of the 1950s and 1960s, with bold colors, chrome accents, vintage-inspired logos, and sleek finishes, evoking a sense of nostalgia while still offering modern functionality and convenience. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, retro-inspired small appliances offer a unique way to add personality and charm to any kitchen. These products are perfect for consumers who are looking to create a vintage-inspired space or add a touch of nostalgia to their homes. This is also a testament to the enduring appeal of classic styles and designs. Advanced Cleaning Solutions

High-tech vacuum cleaner products and air purification solutions were also a major trend. Due to the pandemic, consumers are increasingly focused on keeping their homes clean and healthy, and exhibitors showcased a range of innovative products designed to meet these needs. One of the most notable trends in vacuum cleaners was the integration of wet and dry functions, allowing users to clean up spills and messes more easily. Additionally, some exhibitors showcased vacuum cleaners with UV sterilization capabilities, which can help to eliminate germs and bacteria on surfaces. There was also an emphasis on lightweight and more compact designs, as people are spending more time at home and thus looking for products that are easier to maneuver and store. Many exhibitors also showcased products that use HEPA filters and other advanced filtration technologies to remove harmful particles from the air, improving indoor air quality and reducing the risk of respiratory issues. By incorporating innovative features and technologies, these products offer consumers peace of mind and help to create a healthier, more comfortable home environment.

Garment & Personal Care

The garment & personal care categories are currently experiencing a boom, driven in large part by the return to the workplace. With more people heading back to the office and other professional settings, consumers are looking for innovative products that can help them look and feel their best. In the garment care category, there was a strong focus on products that can help consumers save time and energy while still achieving professional-quality results. Many exhibitors showcased innovative steamers, irons, and other pressing tools that can quickly and easily smooth out wrinkles and restore the appearance of clothing. In the personal care category, there was a growing emphasis on products that can help consumers care for their skin and hair in a convenient and effective way. Products such as facial cleansing brushes, hair styling tools, and innovative beauty gadgets that can help consumers achieve salon-quality results at home were widely popular. There were also several new products designed to help consumers manage stress and promote relaxation, such as aromatherapy diffusers and massage tools. The growth in garment care and personal care categories reflects the changing needs and priorities of consumers in the post-pandemic world.

A Growing Demand for Licenses

Lastly, perhaps the most significant trend was the growing importance of brands and licensing partnerships. With the rise of e-commerce channels and the increasing competition in the market, many companies are recognizing the need to differentiate themselves and stand out from the crowd. Licensing allows manufacturers to leverage the popularity and recognition of well-known brands to enhance their own products and offerings. Many exhibitors at the show highlighted their partnerships with popular brands, showcasing products that featured licensed brands, designs, and logos, which allows them to attract the attention of consumers and differentiate themselves from competitors.
